1. Vacuum Regularly: Start by vacuuming the rug to remove dirt, dust, and debris. Use a vacuum with a beater bar or brush, as polypropylene fibres are strong enough to handle this kind of agitation.

2. Spot Cleaning: For spills, promptly blot the area with a clean, absorbent cloth to remove as much liquid as possible. Avoid rubbing, as this can spread the stain. · For tough stains, use a mild detergent or a carpet cleaner suitable for synthetic rugs. Mix a small amount of detergent with water, apply it to the stain, and gently rub with a soft brush or cloth. Then, blot the area with a clean, damp cloth to remove soap residue.

3. Use Water Freely: Unlike natural fibres, polypropylene is water-resistant and does not absorb water, making it easier to clean with water. You can use a garden hose to rinse the rug outdoors for a deep clean.
4. Steam Cleaning: Polypropylene rugs can be steam cleaned as the fibres do not absorb water. You can rent a steam cleaner or hire a professional. This method is effective for deep cleaning and removing stubborn stains.

5. Bleach solution and Acetone method: This is only applicable to Belgotex solution dyed polypropylene as used in Criss Cross rugs – appendix below for cleaning methods

6. Drying: After cleaning, make sure the rug is thoroughly dry before placing it back on the floor. You can hang it outside or use fans to accelerate the drying process. Avoid folding or wrinkling the rug when it's wet.

7. Routine Maintenance: Rotate the rug periodically to ensure even wear and to prevent fading from sunlight exposure.

8. Polypropylene rugs are highly resilient and easy to maintain, making them suitable for high-traffic areas and homes with pets and children. Regular cleaning and prompt attention to spills will keep your rug looking fresh and extend its lifespan.
